I’ve always been fascinated by Japan, particularly the Japanese language and culture. Andreas and Hendrik – two of my Friends – already spent a work and travel year in Japan and simply heightened my curiosity about this country. Well Andi and Heni thanks to you guys I’m finally here. :) Unfortunately, Germans can only apply for a work and travel visa until they turn 30. And this year, I’m going to be 30. So it was my last chance which I didn’t want to let get away. Another reason is my life situation. As I haven’t taken the Abitur (high school certification test), it’s a little more difficult for me to get jobs in Germany. I’d like to make my CV a bit more interesting with a year abroad in Japan, my first year-long stay in another country. On top of that, I had booked the flight to Japan almost one year in advance to save as much money as possible. Some readers might already know me because of the Hamburg – Rome bicycle trip I did including video documentary after I lost my job in the economic crisis. I was also able to earn some pocket money through presentations I did about this trip afterwards. But that was only a little more than a month’s rent. But it’s at least something for a start…

Some might ask: “Is it really necessary to go to Japan right now after 3/11 to spend a one year work and travel stay there?” The decision for this trip was made before the earthquake, the tsunami catastrophe and Fukushima … Continue reading →

["post-2","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
